Volcanic eruptions

To understand how volcanoes erupt and the force behind them we carried our our own volcanic eruption using Diet cola and mentos. We discussed how the surface of the mentos reacts with the carbon dioxide which makes the bubbles in the cola and the reaction causes an eruption. We compared the cola bottle to the conduit of the volcano and the opening as the vent! 

Have a go at home but it can get messy!
