Class 2 Trip to Mere Sands
Date: 28th Jun 2024 @ 4:12pm
Today, we have had the best class trip to Mere Sands.
First of all, we met our wonderful group leader, Hayley, and she showed us how to use a map of the area. We noticed all the OS symbols and which towns we were were close to. We then began to direct ourselves to our outdoor classroom, using our map and our compass. We stopped at each new path and had to use the map and compass to see which way would get us to the classroom the quickest. We were great at this, and were at the classroom in no time at all!
Our next activity was to create a big 3D map of the area we were in. We were so creative and used huge logs, little sticks, pine cones and moss to name a few things. We hope you enjoy looking at the photos of our maps!
After lunch, we looked the different parts of a flower, and then went on a flower and leaf hunt through the grounds. We spotted lots of trees using our leaf detector, including Rowan, Beech and Holly trees. When we got back to our classroom, we discussed what a flower needs in order to reproduce and then played some games. We really enjoyed the bee game, where we had to collect nectar and pollen using water and pine cones!
What a lovely day! Thank you to everyone who helped to make it a success!
